Indexing for Structured and Unstructured Data for Efficient Information Retrieval

Mallikharjuna Rao Sakhamuri

The exponential growth of both structured and unstructured data within all types of organizations is evident over last few decades. This data comes in multiple formats and from multiple sources such as text messages, biological data objects, medical data objects and IOT as well. While extracting this essential information and presenting it in the form of reports, retrieval time is taken into consideration to evaluate the performance of the system. Indexing the data reduces the query time by pre- organizing the information records. The ongoing demand of the less turnaround time makes optimum indexing searching data vital. Heterogeneous and Object model data bases makes it vital to develop application specific indexing solutions based on the data to be queried. The white paper is to discuss the various indexing methods for both structured and unstructured data.
