Translational Hepatology

The fundamental concept underlying the Translational Hepatology Unit’s research is that human disease can serve as a window into broad biological processes, the understanding of which could, in turn, lead to treatments for these and other diseases. It deals with research on cellular and molecular pathways of innate and adaptive immunity in the intestine, inflammation, and immune system-bacteria interactions. Scientific findings are applied to the study of gastrointestinal diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic liver disease, and cancer. In conjunction with the careful study of clinically and genetically defined patient cohorts, these efforts help identify novel therapeutic strategies and methods for optimising current treatment protocols.
