Optimal Methods for Blood Collection and RNA Extraction in Horses

Detecting gene expression through RNA is a complex yet very effective mechanism to investigate functionality of the genome and has a widespread potential application in modern equine research. Degradation of RNA after blood collection is a major challenge and requires that sample be subjected to appropriate storage and cautious handling before and during processing. The current study was designed to optimize and evaluate a protocol for RNA extraction from horse blood and to establish the role of incubation time and temperature on RNA purity and yield.
