Papaya (Carica papaya ) is cultivated on an area of c. 130 ha with an annual production of 20 tonnes, and is one of the important fruit crops in Oman. In Oman whitefly-transmitted leaf curl viruses are among the most devastating pathogens of cultivated crops including tomato, papaya and chilli, and other vegetable and fruit crops for which yield losses can range from 0-100%.
